Description

The next of my new group of 11" x 17" cover recreations that I commissioned from artist Greg Woronchak. :icong-wor:

In this commission I fulfilled a dream. I have always been a big fan of the original, golden age Marvel/Timely Comics hero, the Angel. 1. He is one of Marvel’s very first superheroes. 2. He appeared in their first comic book, Marvel Comics #1 (1939). And 3. aside from the golden age Marvel big three (Captain America, Human Torch & Sub-Mariner), no other golden age character appeared in more solo stories, 107! [In addition to appearances in multiple titles, he primarily starred in Marvel Mystery Comics (#1-79) and in Sub-Mariner (#1-21)], BUT... he never headlined a book of his own back then (though he recently starred in Ed Brubaker's Marvels Project LS) and I always wanted to see a cover of his own. So, using the cover of #1 of The Saint as the basis for this comission, the Angel finally got his series! Obviosly I had the Saint replaced by the Angel on the cover & in place of the girl I had the Blonde Phantom adding in. Finally, I found a "the Angel" logo from an interior story from the 40's and had it take the place of the original Saint logo. The final image turned out great!

This color version of the original [link] was digitally colored by myself.
